100 year memorial for Equestrian Statue

The Equestrian Statue of King Rama V the Great The Equestrian Statue of King Rama V the Great was erected in 1908 during the reign of King Rama V from a fund raised by the Thai people. The statue was cast in Paris by a French craftsman. The remainder of the fund was spent by King Rama VI on the establishment of Chulalongkorn University, which was named after King Chulalongkorn, Rama V.

The bronze statue of King Rama V in field' marshal's uniform mounted on a horse was cast in Paris by a French sculptor in 1907 when the king visited Europe, and was shipped to Bangkok in 1908.
The statue stands six metres tall from the platform on which the horse stands to the top of the helmet. It is two metres wide and five metres in length. Attached to the front of the marble platform is an engraved bronze plate honouring the King.
Kjog Chulalongkorn is one of the best loved of all Thai kings. On October 23 each year, it representatives from government bodies, the military, the police, students and people of all occupations bring garlands, flowers, incense and candles to pa respect to the king and to commemorate the anniversary of his death.
