Banyan Tree Bangkok - Vertical Marathon 2008

In a storm of footsteps, fitness enthusiasts, charity supporters and members of the public will be racing up 1,093 steps at Banyan Tree Bangkok on 28 September 2008 (Sunday) for the 10th Vertical Marathon.

The finishing point for the race is the award-winning Vertigo restaurant, converted from a helicopter pad into what is now one of the highest al fresco restaurants in Asia.

Proceeds from the event will be donated to the “HIV Formula Feeding Fund”, a Thai Red Cross initiative under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Soamsawali.

Help us to support HIV patients by registering to participate in the marathon or just coming along to watch. We are aiming to beat the total funds raised in 2007 of 515,000 Baht!

Registration costs 350 Baht per person and includes the official marathon T-shirt. Luxurious accommodation vouchers and gift certificates are also up for grabs. The winners will be presented with trophies presented by Her Royal Highness Princess Soamsawali.

VENUE:

The race will start in front of Thai Wah 1 and finish on the 61st floor of Banyan Tree Bangkok, covering a distance of 196 metres or 1,093 steps.

Ground level entrance to the fire exits stairway (near the car park entrance of the hotel)

CATEGORIES:

Individual by gender and age
5 - 15 yrs. 16 - 25 yrs. 26 - 39 yrs. 40 - 49 yrs, over 50yrs.
Couple 1 male and 1 female
Team of 4 persons

PRIZES:

- Every participant who completes the vertical marathon (61 storeys) will receive a medal.
- A Certificate of Achievement will be given to the 3 fastest runners or teams in each category.
- The winner of both the male and female categories will receive a trophy presented by Her Royal Highness Princess Soamsawali.
- Stays at a luxurious hotel in Laguna Phuket and gift certificates are to be won.

Fee: 350 Baht per person for all categories. Fee includes official T-shirt and Food and Drink coupons.

PROGRAMME:

6.00am - 7.00am:
On-site registration and collection of running number, T-shirt and chip.

8.00am:
Race starts (Sequence: Individual, Couples and Team)
Entertainment and music will be available throughout the event

11.30am:
Prize presentation

RULES & REGULATIONS:

• The race start time is 8.00am sharp. Registration starts at 6.00am and closes at 7.00am. Late registrations will not be permitted.
• Runners will be flagged off in groups of 10 at intervals of 2 minutes.
• During the team relay race, team members have to hold a chip used for timing and pass it onto the next team member on specified floors.
• The floors for passing the chip to the next team member are the 14th, 29th and 45th floors respectively.
• Service areas and First Aid points are available every 6 floors and judges are on standby during the race.
• Runners must keep to the right by the handrail when running. Overtaking or stopping for rests must be done on the left side.
• Upon completion of the race, runners will be escorted to the ground level via the elevator.
• Runners who complete all 61 storeys will receive a medal and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place holders from each category will also receive a Certificate of Achievement.
• Runners shall abide by any instructions given by the officials before, during and after the race. Failure to do so, or failure to comply with any of the above rules, regulations & guidelines, will render a runner liable for disqualification.
• The decision of the judges is final.
• Loss of the chip will result in a 500 Baht fine.
