Miniature fruits (Look Chup)
Look Chup is a beautiful -- yet easy-to-make --Thai dessert which tastes delicious and smells really fragrant. Its unique characteristic lies in the fact that its shape and color imitates those of fruits and vegetables in nature. Look Chup are beautifully decorated and are a well-known favorite among Thais and foreigners alike.
Ingredients
- dried yellow mung beans
- 2 c.
- coconut milk
- 5 c.
- powdered gelatine
- 10 tbsn.
- flower fragrant water
- 10 c.
Preparation :
- Soak the mung beans in water for 3 hours, then drain and steam them for 30minutes or until soft.
- Mash the mung beans with coconut milk in a blender.Put in a brass pan with the sugar, and heat slowly, stirring constantly, until very thick and dry.Remove from the heat and allow to cool.
- Mould the mung beans mixture into small shapes ,such as chillies, mango, orange, papaya etc., it's up to your imagination.Stick them on toothpicks or skwers and stand them in foam.Using a small paint brush and food colouring in appropriate shades, paint the fruits.
- Method gelatine solution : Dissolve powdered gelatine in flower fragrant water and bring to a boil and always stirring so it doesn't stick, remove from flame.
- Dip the painted fruits in to the gelatine solution. Place them back on the foam and allow to dry, then dip again, Wait until the glazing setup before removing from the toothpicks. Decorate the fruits with any(non-poisonous)leaves of your choice,trimmed down to a small size.
